Rubella
can cause birth defects in pregnant women, particularly in the first
trimester
before many women are aware that they are pregnant. Children

15 months and people with suppressed immune systems are also at high
risk. Citing the potential cost,
the cruise industry in 1998 essentially ignored CDC recommendations
to administer rubella vaccine to all crew without documented immunity.
